ABOUT TRACY
I am a classically trained artist but not a photographer. I studied painting and drawing at the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia but before I knew that I could not remember faces. That was probably the start of the journey of realizing that I could not remember faces but not the realization. But it was the panic attack that changed my course when I realized that the other artists in the program could, I thought they were all superhumans and I was flawed. So I merged the program with advertising and started a journey into graphic design and advertising and changed gears away from the portraits I loved thinking that but my flawed brain could not grasp humans long enough to get them down on paper and canvas. (I did graduate from Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at The University of Georgia with a major in advertising and a minor in art from Lamar Dodd.)
And then years later someone special put a camera in my hands. And voila, that was my new brush. Once I accepted that a camera could be a brush. I have to admit, that was difficult. I mean, light was already in the eyes, I wasn't putting it there with bristles. But wait, the light might not be there exactly where I wanted it and the color of the eyes may not be as intense as I thought it should be. So I studied and practiced and studied and practiced more, until I could figure out how to get the light exactly where I wanted it and make the eyes as intense as I knew they should be. And now it's my own special kind of magic because I know how to make it happen, I understand. It's been a journey but I understand and I can and it's satisfying and I love each and every time I get to explore taking images.
One of my favorite quotes is from Imogen Cunningham when asked which was the favorite photograph she had taken and her response was "The one I'm going to take tomorrow." That sums it up for me. I'm not done, my favorite work is the work I've not done yet.
I am award winning but I am most proud of my association as a Global Ambassador and Creative Partner with Zeiss Camera Lenses and a member of the Speaker Team for Miller's Professional Imaging. I don't know there is just something ultimately satisfying about the brands you love and use everyday also loving you back in such a glorious relationship. I feel like I've now been to the top of the mountain. Oh and also I have the bestest clients in the world. Is bestest a word? My clients have headlined movies and tv shows. They are with some of the top talent agencies. My clients rock. Someone recently told me I was a celebrity photographer. I'm not but my clients are celebrities and that is kind of cool and we'll leave it at that. They are the ones destined to be stars and that is the way it should be. I'm good with that.
